Frequently Asked Questions

Each cabin has a maximum occupation number; for safety and undue wear and tear on the cabins, we ask the cooperation of registered guests not to exceed the limit posted. The Owners are on-site and available for special requests, directions, and general area information.


What time is check-in?  Check out?

Check-in time is 4:00 – 8:00 pm. Please call us if you anticipate arriving after 8p so that we can make arrangements. Check-out time is 10:00 am.  Please turn in your key and be sure to check your room for all personal belongings. We require adequate time to clean cabins to accommodate the next guests. We will gladly do our best to accommodate any requests for a later check-out.  A $50 re-keying charge is added for keys not returned to management.

Is there a minimum age requirement for booking?

Yes, guests must be over the age of 21 to book a reservation. We do not accept reservations from parents or guardians for guests under 21 yrs of age and for safety do not allow teens or young children to stay in cabins without adult supervision. This is a security liability from our Insurance.


Can I bring pets?

We do NOT accept pets at the moment. Please leave yours at home as we have two very friendly dogs, Red & Bolt, and 2 cats, Rocky & Kacie that roam the property. We will be happy to assist in finding a suitable kennel facility to leave your pet.  Guests who arrive with pets will be charged the full rate, as a cancellation. Please do not feed our pets, let them in the pool area or your cabins.

What is your cancellation policy?

The Shaded Crest requires a minimum of 14 days' notice of cancellation for a full refund. There will be a 50% refund if canceling the week of your stay. We understand unexpected things happen. We are a small family-run business and rely on the commitment of our guests to stay in operation. Reservations for holidays or holiday weekends can not be canceled.  “NO SHOW” will be charged for the entire reservation booked.


What is your policy with respect to children?

Children must be well supervised at all times and respect the rights of other guests. Western NC is home to many wild creatures and children need to be educated about the dangers of roaming the property unattended. Pool rules are posted. No one under the age of 18 must be under supervision at all times. The Edelweiss, Chickadee, Vienna, and Munich Studios have extra large Jacuzzi tubs that are deep and can drown a small child.  Please make sure you are with your young child while it is in the bathtub. The additional person charge applies to children 6 years and older.


Is smoking permitted?

Smoking is permitted outdoors only.  Absolutely no smoking or use of any type of tobacco products inside rooms, including vape pens. We have the option to be evicted under the NC Quick eviction Act and charged for their full reservation. Guest will also be charged an additional $150 for deep cleaning and sanitizing. We encourage all smokers to use the ashtrays provided and not litter cigarettes on the grounds.  Always empty ashtrays in the outside trash containers and never place used cigarettes in your kitchen trash as it will make the room smell.  Please be aware we are in the middle of a heavily wooded property with dry wood and fallen leaves all around.  Cigarettes thrown on the ground will cause an immediate fire hazard.


Can we invite family (friends) to the Pool?

The Pool is for REGISTERED GUESTS ONLY.  Our insurance does not cover outside guests. The outside whirlpool closed.  All North Carolina rules are posted and must be observed.  Absolutely no glass containers are allowed inside the gates.  Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The Shaded Crest reserves the right to deny pool privileges to any guest breaking these rules.  We are a very small community and sound carries here in the gorge. We ask that all guests be respectful of other guests with no roughhousing, loud screaming, or loud music. Pool hours are 9:00 am to 9:00 pm only. Quiet time is 10p-8a


Can I book for one night only?

We do not encourage a one-night stay as you cannot benefit from the full range of things to do in the area.  However, we understand needing “down time” from your hectic lifestyle or are traveling through town and need a place to stay. This is solely based if there is free space between reservations.


Do all cabins have TV and WI-FI?

All cabins have their own hotspot wifi. Please use it for general usage and not for streaming services. We are in the process of having fiber optics installed. There is a digital antenna for local channels. We are located on a hill so you usually get good cell phone reception. Reception is sporadic in most of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. The weather can affect the reception of wifi and we are not responsible for outages beyond our control. There are no phones in any cabin.


Which cabins have Jacuzzi tubs or Hot Tubs?

All King rooms have double jacuzzi bathtubs large enough for two persons. Please read the instructions carefully. Outdoors, the in-ground swimming pool is centrally located for all registered guests. The outside whirlpool closed.


Do you allow Motorcycles?

We welcome guests on motorcycles and ask that you respect the rights of other guests with no loud mufflers or loud music. The 1st part of the driveway is paved. Then it turns into gravel. When transitioning from paved to gravel we ask you to try to maintain your speed to prevent kicking gravel back.


Can I bring a Motorhome, trailer, or Boat?

We are unable to accept motorhomes, trailers, or boats as there is not enough space to park them. We apologize for this inconvenience. 


Are there charcoal grills or can I bring mine?

Because we are surrounded by natural forestry and the risk of fire is great so we must ask for everyone’s cooperation and absolutely no open flames. We do have a propane grill and flattop for your convenience.


Do all cabins have heat and air conditioning?  Fireplace?

All cabins have Heat pumps and A/C and for added comfort, we have ceiling fans in every cabin. The four King rooms have propane gas fireplaces.


Are there any unadvertised specials or packages?

We offer a variety of discount packages ranging from 5% to 18% for weekly rentals, renting multiple cabins, and booking out the entire property. Please contact us for further details. There are no discounts on holidays or holiday weekends. 


What should we bring with us?

Small toiletries and linens are supplied in each cabin. Coffee is provided. Pool towels are provided but are limited in quantity. We suggest bringing your own. Ingles, the grocery store is a 5-minute drive with a gas station. Although we try to equip the kitchens with the basics, you may want to bring your favorite cooking or serving items, and your own pool towels. For the safety of our guests, we do not supply condiments in the kitchens as these may become contaminated.
